Ride 'Round Rhody 2012
What does it mean to Ride 'Round Rhody?
For the past 3 years, scores of cyclists and volunteers have come together to raise funds for vital cancer treatment at local hospitals.
This year, cyclists in the 4th annual charity ride will choose from a 25, 50 or 75 mile course that tours southern RI and parts of Connecticut along tree-lined roads with gently rolling terrain.
Cyclists will help generate tens of thousands of dollars for local cancer treatment!
Details of the RRRide
- The Ride (August 12)
- Distance: The routes will be approximately 25, 50 and 75 miles long (riders may select their route the day of the ride)
- Terrain: All three routes take riders on open roads with rolling hills; there will be light-moderate automobile traffic
- Map: Click here to view the ride map and cue sheet (minor changes may occur due to future construction, nature, or other external factors - an up-to-date map and cue sheet will be provded to all riders at check-in)
- Support: All three routes will be fully supported by volunteers from Threshold Cycling, who will ride alongside RRR cyclists of all abilities to offer support - both mechanical and motivational. There will also be a "sag wagon" driving the route to provide a ride back to the start for any cyclists/bicycle in need
- Gear
- Helmets are required for ALL riders - without an appropriate helmet, you will not be permitted to ride
- A road bike is ideal for all routes, and strongly recommended for the 75-mile route. A hybrid or road bike is suggested for the 50-mile; a road, hybrid, mountain, single-speed/fixed-gear, or cruiser bike would be workable for the 25-mile route. (These are only recommendations; cyclists will not be prevented from riding their desired route based on their style of bicycle)
- All riders will receive a custom RRR cycling jersey to be worn during the ride; it will include three rear pockets to hold bars/gels/tools/etc., and will have a full zipper for ventilation
- The Training
- A general guideline for training is that the distance you typically ride in one week can be ridden in one day
- For maximum comfort and enjoyment on ride day, it is recommended that you:
- Have ridden a few rides of at least 2/3s the distance of your intended route during the course of the summer - particularly one or two in the weeks leading up to the ride
- Average around 125% of the miles of your intended route for each week starting in July and ending mid-August ...it's nice to give yourself an easy week leading up to the ride
- The Mission
- We are riding to support local cancer treatment
- Fundraising is a crucial part of what it means to participate in Ride 'Round Rhody
- All riders are asked to set a goal to raise $250 or more in support of their participation in the ride, and expected to raise or donate at least $100
- You will be able to easily create a personal/team fundraising page at the time of registration
- We are here to help you! If you would like any fundraising help or advice, just ask...

- Through January 31: $75
- Through April 30: $80
