Bike–a–Thon to Raise Funds for Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Looking for a way to raise funds to fight cancer and promote local health care, Jacob Brier, grant development officer for Lifespan, decided to take to the streets—on a bicycle.

Part of a family very dedicated to The Miriam, he is the son of Jeffrey G. Brier, chair of The Miriam Hospital Foundation Board, and Jessica Brier, Magnet site coordinator and an employee of the hospital for 25 years.

Brier and his wife, Dani Sahner, co-founded LIFEcycle, Inc., in November 2008. Their first fundraiser is Ride ’Round Rhody, an annual bike-a-thon to raise money for the Adele R. Decof Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Miriam, the Rhode Island and Newport hospitals’ Comprehensive Cancer Centers and the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

The 50-mile ride, which will start and end at The Miriam Hospital’s Arena parking lot, will take place on August 30, 2009. “Our goal is to raise $10,000 for local cancer treatment, but that may be increased if we open the ride up to more participants,” says Brier. “We hope to donate 100 percent of that money directly to local cancer treatment.”
